Home Alone

As workplaces across the Northwest start to open back up, you may be facing a serious challenge……what do I do with my FFF (favorite furry friend) when I’m away from home for the day? Some workspaces are opening up to the idea of having pets in the office. Amazon has over 7,000 registered pets in the downtown Seattle campus….that’s a lot of pup power! However, many work situations are not conducive for dogs or cats. Here are a few tips to that will help our BoosterPet Nation get ready for this change.

  • Start preparing now before the big day. If you’ve been with you pet 24/7 for the past 18 months, leaving for an entire day can seem like a lifetime to your pet. Start by leaving the home for short periods of time.

  • Safe spaces are important. If you intend to crate train, do it slowly and use lots of treats. Crate training, if done properly, is a great way to create a safe space for your pet. If you don’t opt for crate training, make sure your fur baby has a comfortable and safe rest area in your home.

  • Doggy day care. There are lots of quality day care options for dogs in Seattle and this a great way for your pooch to get socialization, exercise and TLC while you bring home the bacon. Some day cares have grooming options, too. Remember dog(s) are required to be up-to-date on their vaccines and you may need to provide proof of vaccination.

  • Consider a dog walker. Having someone stop by the house one or twice during the day for a long walk with your FFF is a great way to break up the long day - not to mention anxiety about needing to use the outhouse:) One great place to find a dog walker is Rover.com.

  • Long-lasting treats. This is a great way to keep things fun as you depart for the day. Consider trying slow feeder, food puzzles & pheromones, too:)
