International Blind Dog Day
August 23rd is International Blind Dog Day. At BoosterPet Veterinary & Urgent Care, we're celebrating our visually impaired furry best friends! It's a great day to learn more about blind dogs and is a good reminder to check in and take care of your pet's eye health.
Some signs your pet may need to get their eyes checked:
Vision changes in pets often creep in slowly and get missed. Cloudy eyes, bumping into furniture, hesitating on stairs, or reluctance to go out at night can all be early signs. Some causes, like cataracts or glaucoma, have real treatment options when caught early. Others can't be reversed, but an early diagnosis still means more time to help your dog adjust safely at home. Either way, if something's seemed off with your dog's eyes lately, we'd rather take a look now than later. Blind and low-vision dogs can go on to live full, happy lives, early answers just give you more options along the way.
Some causes of visual impairment and eye discomfort:
Cataracts
Diabetes
Glaucoma
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
Suddenly Acquired Retinal Degeneration (SARDS)
